I am searching for the ancestors of Hannah Hancock born 1886 in Harriseahead. She married Richard Bibby in 1904, he died in an accident at Black Bull pit about 1922, there were six children from this marriage. Hannah later married Sydney Shaw in 1924 and had two more children. I know Hannah's father was James but from here on there is very little information.
Any help is very much appreciated,
regards, Jean.

As a first step, you might try the online 1901 census
http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
to see if you can locate Hannah, and if she was living at home. This will show age and place of birth and thus help you to try and identify them in earlier census returns and also on the General Register Office (GRO) indexes of births, and marriages, and deaths. The GRO indexes can be seen online at:
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl which is incompelte, but free and 1837 online which is complete, but a pay-per-view website.

You might seafrch the above sites and find a birth in Sep 1886 for Hannah Hancock in the district of Wolstanton, volume 6b page 135 and decide that she's your lass and want to order the birth certificate, which you can do online via: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ but you should check to make sure that there are no other Hannahs born within a couple of years who may be a better match. Don't forget to also check under HANDCOCK - spelling of surnames did not become finally fixed until the start of the 20th century.
