The Forum virgin here. Just had to join in. My 4 great grandfather was the original fireman on the original George Stephensons Locomotion 1. His name was Charles Matthew Ragge. My 3 great grandfather was the fireman on the Stephensons Rocket ( and changed the family name from Ragge to what it is today which is Wragg. My 2 great grandfather (Charles Nightingale Wragg) has the distinction of being the fire stoker on BOTH Locomotion 1 and Rocket. At present looking for the evidence (post link if possible please) of their work with George Stephenson, the "Father of the Railways". Charles Matthew was on the footplate of Locomotion 1 when it did its inaugural run on 27th September 1825 (anniversary just past)
