Hi can anyone help please,

Lewis Allsopp Bn 1884 Colton Staffs

In the 1911 Census My G,Grandfather is working as a "RAILWAY LOCOMOTIVE STOKER" and living in Willesden London, the Family says that he was also at one time the youngest train driver in the country and that he also drove the Scotsman train for royalty. I'm not sure if any of the later is correct but i would love to be able to trace his career, could someone please advise me!

Thanks

Ian

His service records will be at the National Archives in Kew under RAIL (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATLN=1&CATID=241&SearchInit=4&SearchType=6&CATREF=RAIL)

If you can get hold of a booklet called "Was Your Grandfather a Railwayman?" by Tom Richards this will help you narrow down the search, although the staff at Kew are pretty helpful. See also this Research Guide (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=124).
