On my most recent thread on this subject - Term of Inprisonment I indentified a lady that should have been in jail in Swansea in 1871. The County Prison in Swansea had as of 1871 a total of 43 female inmates.

All inmates, both male and female were listed by initials only. Her initials would have been L. M. and she would have been aged about 59. She isn't there!!! [at least I can't find a possible match]
To my way of thinking, she should be as in October 1869 a Lucy Mainwaring was sentenced to 7 years Penal Servitude followed by 5 years Police Supervision. This would put her date of release as approximately the later part of 1876.

Could she have been held in another prison due to the length of her sentence? |help|

Please don't comment on the Lucy Mainwaring that was enumerated at 7 Hall Street Swansea as that is part of my other thread mentioned above.

Thanks
Colin

Long-term prisoners were moved about very frequently, and she could have been held in just about any prison in the country.

Have you looked at this one in Millbank (London)?

If this is the same person, it looks like she was released on licence at the end of 1884. Maybe this was after the 1877 conviction? In 1881 she appears to be in Woking Gaol, in Surrey.
