The General Slocum Disaster

I had never heard of this terrible disaster and only came across it because one of my namesakes (not directly related to me) perished in this ghastly event. I had to google it to find out about it - not nice.

There must be numerous disasters that we either are not aware of or have forgotten about - the Aberfan disaster still sticks in my mind for some strange reason.

Hi BV, what a terrible thing! What sort of a person puts lead weights in life jackets? It is strange that this particular disaster isn't more famous, given that so many people died.

Aberfan sticks in my mind too, I can remember it being on the news when I was a little girl.

What an awful story - I agree that it is surprising that it is not more well known even given how long ago it was and that it was in the US.
