Pink and Blue Envelopes

As a newcomer to the site, could someone please tell me the significance of the pink or blue envelopes which appear next to each query. Apologies if this is a very silly question

Not a silly question at all.

The various colours represent how busy a thread is. There was an index of what each meant once, but it seems to have disappeared with the upgrade.
Red means the thread has had more than a certain number of posts to it (I can't remember the number now, but probably 10 or 15), blue hasn't had as many.
The envelope can be either open, meaning there are posts made since you last looked at that thread, or closed, which means you have seen the posts.

There is a better explanation somewhere in the forum but I can't recall where it is off hand.

I think the blue/pink envelopes indicates the number of views rather than posts. But I may be wrong.
