Vaccinations

Does anyone know the year that vaccination for Diptheria was first available in England & was
it compulsory for all children.

Thank you for the link notanotherminer I now know the vaccination became available in the 1920s but there is no mention of if it was compulsory or not, I was told that my grandfather had to go to court because he refused to vaccinate his children but I havent confirmed this & thought the best place to start would be to find out for certain if the vaccinations were compulsory.
