I'm looking for Gwilyn Phillips who married in 1917 at Pontypridd. Do you have the certificate as that should provide his father's name and thus make finding them in the census a bit easier.

So looking for a birth C 1897.Ah! Do I take it that the certificate gives the age of 20/21?

Hi

Gwilyn Philips died about 1925 - 1935. I'm doing this family tree for my partner's family. I haven't ordered a marriage certificate i was hoping to find the information i require without doing this. I have very little information on him.

There is no substitute for certificates. Without them (and even sometimes with them!) it is pure guesswork and assumptions. If you obtained a copy of that marriage certificate it would provide a wealth of information. Have a look at: home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/indexbd.htm (put http:// in front) to see what you could find therein.

Notanotherminer,

I could not find the one that you found - I was looking on FreeBMD. The one that I found was on FreeBMD. Try with just the following:
Marriages
Pontypridd District
March 1917 to March 1917
Volume 11a
Page 740

No other information is required and it will bring up the Phillips/Floyd marriage.

I've just spent a very frustrating age trying to find the marriage with much wailing:taz: and teeth grinding as the message was still coming up "no matches found" ................

................I then happened to look up to find I'd been searching under births:frown5:

You are not alone! Been there, done that..... |banghead|

Hi Everyone

I have finally received the marriage certificate this morning for Gwilym Phillips to Gwladys Floyd. Can anyone help me with the census Gwilym was 37 when he got married in 1917 and his fathers name is Philip Phillips. Any help will be greatly received. Hopefully i can now get further with this family.

What else does the marriage certificate say about Gwilym? What was his occupation? Was he a spinster or widower. What was his father's occupation?

There is a Gwilym Phillips born abt 1880 with father Phillip in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census in the Llanwonno area of S. Wales. However, it looks like he married a Mary Ann Davies in 1899.

Hi Gwilym was a widower and his occupation looks like teacher but can't be 100% on that as i can read the beginning of word.

I'm not sure then. The Gwilym I found in the census is a coalminer hewer. Perhaps you could look at the census images yourself to see what you think...

In 1881 there is a 1 year old Gwilym Phillips with parents Phillip and Charlotte and lots of siblings. Phillip is a carpenter.

Census Ref: RG11; Piece: 5297; Folio: 112; Page: 22 (crown copyright, care of the TNA)

In 1891 Gwilym is still with his parents, age 11.

Census Ref: RG12; Piece: 4419; Folio 87; Page 38 (crown copyright, care of the TNA)

In 1901 Gwylim is living next door to his parents. He has married a Mary Ann

Census Ref: RG13; Piece: 5002; Folio: 15; Page: 21 (crown copyright, care of the TNA)

He is in the 1911 census (name transcribed as Gwilyn) but following the rules of the board I cannot transcribe this.

The point that bothers me is that your Gwylim marries in 1917 and if this is the same Gwilym - well I cannot find a death record for first wife Mary Ann between 1911 and 1917.
