Does anyone know if a family were living comfortably if the had servants working for them?
It is my thought that money was pretty scarce especially in 1861, so to have not only 1 servant working for you but 3 or more, then they must have money to spare for the needy that need work !!!! (or for the well off families - that they might want to have people do their work for them, and/or show off the fact that they have money).
