I am looking for a record of the birth of Ann or Annie THOMAS born c1860 - apparently at Greenock.
Her parents were John & Susannah THOMAS. According to the IGI Ann was born in 1860 at West Bromwich. However on the 1861 Census she is listed as being born in Scotland although all her siblings were born in Staffordshire. On the 1871 census she is listed as being born in Greenock, Lanarkshire and again on the 1881 Census. She married in West Bromwich shortly after that Census. I would be very grateful if someone could look up the possible birth for me.

Civil Registration started in Scotland on 1st January 1855, so there should be a certificate available.

If you visit scotlandspeople.gov.uk, it is free to search and pay per view.

I have movved this thread from Lanarkshire to Renfrewshire, as Greenock was in Renfrewshire - despite what it may have said on the census

Hi
I expect you have found this by now - but if not -

There is an Ann Thomas born 1859 in Greenock in the free search on Scotland's People

There is a John Thomas age 22 in the 1851 census in Greenock but as he seems to be there in 1861 too he is probably not yours.
