Can someone pse tell me where the police records for Sussex (Newhaven, Seaford, Bishopstone) may be held? It seems they are not at the record offices at Lewes or Chichester.

Thanks in advance ...

Hello,

It looks as though they could still be with the Sussex Constabulary, according to A Guide to the Archives of the Police (http://www.open.ac.uk/Arts/history/policing/police-archives-guide/index.html). Click on Sussex Police and have a read of what they hold.

Hi,

It really depends what you are looking for and for what time period.
If the period in question is pre 1968 then any surviving records for the East Sussex Constabulary are held at Lewes RO
If it's an individual officers record your after it's unlikely you'll find much. However, if you check out the link below it gives a pretty good idea on how to research police records
