One of my ancesters was a copper based in the City of London.

Would ALL offences committed there be trialled at the Old Bailey or any other court(s) in that area/jurisdiction that I'm not aware of?

Also, am keen to see if any of his court appearances were reported in the local newspaper but I have no idea which newspaper it/they would have been reported in! Any idea folks?

The period in question is from 1920 to 1946

The court at which a case was heard would depend on the severity of the office and location. The majority of cases are heard at Magistrates Courts.

Many policemen were reported in newspapers as giving evidence in court. Finding the relevant entries in a period of 26 years may prove difficult, especially if his surname is one which occurs frequently.

First step would be to try online sources, such as archives.timesonline.

Titles of newspapers in different localities can be searched via the British Library's intergrated catalgoue (http://catalogue.bl.uk/F/RVHU7KD27TFPPEE9XUUIDUP4GLSCQPFI4VTJ28TJ7LMXHDXCCF-47308?func=file&file_name=find-b&local_base=NPL) - the newspapers are available at the Colindale Library (http://www.bl.uk/aboutus/quickinfo/loc/colindale/index.html)

Thanks for the info!

If my copper fella was reported in the local press for any cases it should'nt be too difficult to identify him with the unusual surname of MOLLER - however I do agree over a period of 26 years is stretching it a bit !!
