My grandfather spent his married life in Carlisle, his birth year was 1897 (based on his age on his marriage certificate, and army medical papers). The only leads I have from my brothers/sisters are that he came from Scotland and Fife. I was unable to find any record of him as a a child via Scotland People, where else should I look?I am used to research English records, and don't know what's available for Scotish records.

Finally, can any one suggest why a family, or someone would move from Fife to Carlisle?

Thanks again

Freddie

I've found this death record, not sure if you already know about it?

Name: William Henry Scott
Birth Date: 2 Oct 1896
Death Registration Month/Year: 1972
Registration district: Carlisle
Inferred County: Cumberland
Volume: 1a
Page: 90

I've looked on Ancestry for his birth but can't find anything unfortunately.

P.S. You say he was married. Was it to Isabella Buchan in 1919?
