My GGG Grandfather is Simon McVittie (1809-1888) who is purported to have been born in and hail from Cavan, Ireland.
He married an Alice Best (also from Ireland) at Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada in 1830, which means he immigrated to Canada before this date.
I have information that indicates Simon was born on May 1, 1809. However, I have not been able to confirm this independently.
I'm attempting to confirm that this McVittie family came from Cavan.
The Canadian Census shows his religion as Church of England.
Any ideas on how to proceed would be appreciated.
