There’s only one Scotchin or variation burial in Beds between 1794 and 1851, and that was Scutchins at Flitton with Silsoe.

Even worse at Ridgmont – no Scotchin events at all. Unless they’re hiding under some spelling variation, but I can’t see anything obvious. But there’s only one Scotchin between 1767 and 1870 in Beds – your Ann’s marriage – bear in mind also that virtually all Beds baptisms and marriages pre 1813 have been extracted onto the IGI

I’m struggling!

Have you checked the marriage entry to see if it gives any clues?

Ah! Just found a family in Ridgmont in 1851 which looks like Scolchin – John aged 27 born Ridgmont, plus wife and family. And looking for for Johns in Ridgmont in 1841 there’s a COTCHIN family-
Elizabeth 45 lace maker; Elizabeth 20, Mary 18, Sarah 16, John 14, Thomas 12, Joseph 9, William 7, Edward 5.

If you check the IGI for Ann COTCHIN you’ll find a baptism on 19 Sept 1813 at Ridgmont, daughter of John & Elizabeth

Now why didn’t I do the obvious and check for an Ann born 1814 +/-1 in Ridgmont. Why? Because the Hugh Wallis site needs updating as it shows that Ridgmont baptisms on the IGI only go up to 1812.

Got there in the end though
