The best way that I thought of for looking for this was to look at the 1841 census for William as you say that he didn't die till 1848. Cannot find him,but there is a Sarah b.1801 (5 years off) and a William b.1796 (12 years off) together at Stapleford Lodge,Stapleford on the census.I suspect that they are some sort of tie in to your query as right name ,right area. The 1841 census reference is HO107, Piece 74, Book/ Folio 10,Page 14.
There is also a death at Newark (which takes in Stapleford) Mar quarter 1841 Vol 15 Page 397.
Only one thing puzzles me....Stapleford.....is it cambridgeshire or Nottingham?

The Sarah Coote to whom this death registration refers is probably the one buried in Fenton (Lincs) aged 18 months on 18 Mar 1841.

The Stapleford in Newark registration district is in Lincolnshire.

And there are other Staplefords in Leicestershire, Hertfordshire, Nottinghamshire, and Wiltshire. :D This (http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/places/regindex1-3.pdf) is your friend. As is the 'mother (http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/)' page.

Not sure if this helps.
There is a Sarah Coote in the 1851 census, widow, living with three of her children in Stapleford. DoB would be 1794, but I think it's worth looking at. If you know her children, it would help confirm/disprove her. She doesn't seem to be there 10 years later, so if that is her, it may be worth considering the Sarah Coote who maried in Sep Qtr, 1852 in Cambridge District.

This could be the answer to not finding the death of Sarah,as,if she remarried after William's death in 1848 then it would be under a different surname.Although she would be around 54/56 in 1852 it's still a possible second marriage.

That Sarah married William Cox. Info from Cambridgeshire online BMD.
