Welcome to the B-G forums.

Have you been able to identify your chap with his dad in a census return?
What was the dad's occupation in the marriage certificate?

There's a possible match for your chap in the GRO index of births

Helo Sallyann - welcome to Brit-Gen,

As Geoffers has said, finding him on a census with his dad would be good.

I am looking for the parents of Albert John Pusey who died 1st July 1971in high wycombe, on death cert it states date of birth 28 Nov 1889.ON his wedding cert of 1919 it gives his age as being 25 also his fathers name as Daniel Pusey. However, there is also this birth registration:

Albert John PUSEY, Wycombe district, March quarter 1890, volume 3a, page 689.

Don't be put off by the fact that the registration is not until the March quarter of 1890 - there were 6 weeks in which to register a birth and so it could have been registered in the January but relate to the November.

HI Sallyann

I can find for an Albert John Pusey I can find is on the 1911 it shows him with a mother called Mercy Edith (1851) and sister called Mary Ann (1894)
RG14PN7869 RG78PN393 RD145 SD1 ED6 SN136

this could be him, what is the address on the marriage certificate?

on the 1901 there is a possibility but Albert is shown as being born 1891 and Mercy in 1856 but there is a daughter called Edith, so I thing this could be them
RG13 piece 1347 folio 167 page 32

on 1891 here is a possible entry
RG12 piece 1137 folio 62 page 42

on all of the above she is a widow

on 1881 she is living with Daniel so this must be the correct entry and hence the above must be correct.

RG11 piece 1466 folio 12 page 2

I have also found a marriage

Mercy Busby married Daniel Pusey High Wycombe Mar Q 1874 3a 507.

I hope the above helps

Looking at census returns, there is a possibility:

1911 - RG14/7869 SN136
1901 - RG13/1347 f167 p32
1891 - RG12/1137 f63 p43

In each case the Albert mentioned is the son of a widow called Mercy.

She shows up in 1881 at RG11/1466 f114 p2 as the wife of a carter called Daniel who was then aged 29

A possible match for this couple is in the GRO index in Mach 1874 (Daniel PUSEY and Mercy BUSBY) - have a look at freebmd

The fly in the ointment is a death:
Dec 1885 Daniel PUSEY - aged 35 - Wycombe - Vol 3a Page 367

So, if this is the right family, Albert's mum appears to have had one child sometime after the death of her husband.

An alternative possibility is that Albert may in fact have been the grandson of Mercy and in fact the son of Ruth, the edlest daughter of Daniel and Mercy.

This is of course pure conjecture and will need the purchase of Albert's birth ceritificate to try and clear things up.

In the meantime, have a look at the census references given and see if they seem a possibility.

(Edit - Sue typed quicker but we seem to have reached a similar conclusion).

references all give in previous postings 4 by SBS and 7 by Geoffers

Given that both Albert and Mary appear to have been born after Daniel's death then either the father's name is not shown on the birth certificate or they are the children of Daniel and Mercy's oldest child and not identified as so on the census records.

It may be worth sending for the birth certificate/s.

Another thought in gloucestershire we have stared to transcribe registers after 1837 with birth certs we have the childs name mothers maiden name date of birth, but not the fathers name.

This would however enable us to check if Mercy was the mother or one of her daughters as the maiden name for the mother would be different.

It may be worth contacting Bucks family history society before sending for certs.
