I have just recieved an email from the Stadtarchiv in Alsfeld and it say jo blogs born 'whenever' and then it says as citizen received in Alsfeld 27 Dec 1829 . What does that mean? one chap was 32 when it happened, another aged 25 and the third was 29. ???? Has the sender of the email just got it wrong when he wrote in English and it is something else?

Possibly means, registered. Not sure when it started, but in modern day Germany, you have to register with the authorities when you move to a town. Equally, you have to deregister when you leave, as well as registering that you are moving-in German abmelden (deregister) ummelden(register change) and anmelden (register). Obviously, don't know if this is what they mean-if you can get the German, I could tell you.
