Looking for John Salt born abt 1851 Darlaston. Married Clara Collins 20 Mar 1875 St Mathew Wolverhampton. Johns father was John Salt. Clara's father was Thomas Collins.

It looks like him at 58 Russell St,Wolverhampton with his widowed mother,Mary(49) and his 9 y o brother Thomas.The reference is RG 10 2933 folio 33

Thank you, that looks like a census reference what year is that?1871. Mother's occupation is Charwoman, John's is Iron Brazier.

Thanks Trish, that is definately John Salt the younger. Now we have the name of his mother and a brother. Chris my wife has just shown me a note from the 1881 census that shows him married with two eldest children. Entry positively idenetified by Chris's Aunt and his occupation - Iron Brazier.

John, 41, wife Clara, 36, children Mary, 12, Emily, 7 and Clara, 2. John's birthplace given as Arliston, all others Wolverhampton. John's occupation is Smith Striker Iron Works ["Smith" is written in after the fact]

In 1901 he appears to be at 14 Oxford St,Wolverhampton.Ref RG 13 2681 folio 68.
