|help| Could anyone help me with information on Bridget Gallagher born in Irelend. She married William Abbott at Gateshead on 2nd May 1865, giving her age as 19years and her fathers' name as Michael, a jobbing labourer. She was my husbands great grandmother but I have now hit a brick wall with her.

I have found Bridget and William and possibly Michael on the 1871 census of Heworth, Durham via Ancestry as follows:

Also at Schedule 197, Graham Pl, on the same page, is the following:

Alice do Wife Mar 60 Do

And on Folio 73, page 49
Windy Nook, Heworth
Schedule 252

Michael GALLAGHER Head Widr 51 Coal Miner Ireland
Mary do Daur 8 Scholar Scotland

Hi Janet, Many thanks for your info,especially Bridget & Williams children as I thought that I may have missed an earlier one. Re Michael I think that I have him on the 1881 census with daughter Mary born Scotland but with a second wife and step children, Mary age 44 and Michael 54 (1871 was 51 ) Would this be a case of dropping his age so that he did not seem too much older than his wife. Will start checking "Scotlands People" for Mary's birth. Again many thanks
