Mephan Ferguson

I am trying to find some information on Mephan Ferguson. He started a business in Engineering in Victoria, Australia with branches in South Australia and Western Australia that I'm aware of. My great grandfather was a Ships Carpenter and worked for him in Western Australia but I have suspicions that he may have been recruited in Scotland to work in Australia. I may be wrong on this one but my great grandfather Andrew Higgie worked for a long time in Port Adelaide, South Australia, then went to Perth, Western Australia, as an employee of the company, around the time Mephan Ferguson was granted the contract to construct the water pipes for The Eastern Goldfields Water Supply. I know Mephan Ferguson was scottish so there must be somebody in Scotland who knows about this man.
