For many years I have had a horse brass [remember them?] which is heart-shaped, and inscribed:

L. JAMES
ST. CLEARS
LLANBOIDY
WHITLAND
KIDWELLY

I have no connection with Carmarthenshire but have often wondered who L. James was, and what business he had. There is no date on the brass, but it looks as though it is from the age of the horse and not a modern re-strike.
Can anyone help please?

Hi Daggers.

I'm originally from Carmarthenshire but I don't know much about the areas you mentioned. You might find help if you browse around and post something here: http://www.walesgenweb.com/

Good luck!

You're welcome.

Have you had a look at this site: http://www.visitcarmarthenshire.co.uk/cissystem/index_CIS_1.cfm?cisref=24&Siteref=1&page=0/

I know St. Clears has been an "up and coming" place for many years so it's possible the site manager could post something there asking people for information. It's the largest of the places where L. James had businesses. Worth a try.

Thanks again - I have sent the centre a request and will post anything that comes back.
