Trying to find the birth cert of Llewelyn Thomas c.1815 poss from Llanblethian (or so it states on the 1851 census) Father is Robert Thomas 1776, mother Mary Evan 1778. I've had 5 requests to the NR rejected so far!! Really trying to find Llewellyn's wife's maiden name Elizabeth ?? c.1825 as well to pin down their mar. ANY help will be appreciated. David

Hello deetee537,

I am afraid that you will not be able to obtain a birth certificate for your Llewelyn as civil registration did not start in England and Wales until 1st July 1837. Therefore, baptism records would be your best bet.

Have you checked the parish records? If not, a booklet of them, which also includes marriage and burials, is available from the Gloucestershire Family History Society.

As you are based in Bridgend, are you able to get to the Glamorgan Family History Society research centre at Aberkenfig? Details on their website. Open on Wednesdays and the last Saturday in the month.

Though wait until this snow has disappeared - they had to close today!

David,

The Glamorgan FHS index of baptisms has no match for your Llewellyn's details. Perhaps he was not baptised, baptised late or at a non-con chapel (not many of these in the index).

If his wife was born about 1825, their marriages should be in the civil records. If they were married by 1851, there is a possible match at Bridgend district (included Llanblethian) in March quarter 1842. If not married by 1851, there's another possibility in Dec 1854. Do a search on FreeBMD to see the details.

John
