I am seeking information about the Imperial Army and Navy Veterans Commemorative Medal: in particular, to whom, when and why it was awarded. My GGF was photographed wearing the medal circa 1906. He was in the Corps of an Armourer Sergeants (1860-84) and later enlisted in the Canadian Active Militia (1903-06).
The only reference I've found to the medal on the Internet is at the National Maritime Museum site (Catalogue # MEC1106), with the following inscription: "A Maltese cross pierced, the Royal coat of arms (centre); a gun carriage (left), two crossed rifles (right); above, two crossed swords; below, two crossed anchors. Fitted with a clasp inscribed 'IMPERIAL ARMY AND NAVY VETERANS' and a blue ribbon with a central red stripe bordered with narrow white stripes." My GGF's is identical to that in the NMN example, except that it appears to be brass rather than silver.
