Having re-read the copy of the letter written by Alfred Ross Crawcour in 1989 Capetown to another Crawcour relative in which he describes the family tree it is very interesting to see how much data on the family history many of my distant Crawcour relatives have collected only relatively recently.
The data my distant cousin Pat and myself hold lists well over 1000 individuals world wide from the mid 1700s to the present.
In the case of the Crawcour/CrawCour South African relatives ( the surname is Crawcour and was adapted in some cases to CrawCour- but are all from the same lines) their roots stem from:
Henry John Crawcour who married Rosa Isaacs in 1847. Henry was the son of David Crawcour circa 1791-1882 who married Amelia Barnes. David Crawcour is buried Almorah Cemetry Jersey in the Jewish section. David known as " Gentleman David of Cracour" was a surgeon dentist and my 4x great grandfather son of Samuel Crawcour 1748-1816 from Kracow.
The children of David Crawcour 1791-1882 were:
Morris 1813-1898 m Anne Hardwicke
Isaac 1815-1886 m Esther Cashmore
Samuel 1816-1858 m Leah Cashmore
Aaron 1818-1901 m Sarah Bushell
Nancy 1820-26
Ann Rebecca 1821-1867 m Aaron Hart
Henry John 1824-1904 m Rosa Isaacs
The children of Henry and Rosa were:
David 1848-1891 ( he is buried next to his grandfather David in Almorah) m Mary Ann Margaret Samuels known as Minnie 1846-1913 died Johannesburg.
The children of David and Margaret were:
Amelia Augustine 1871-1946 m 1 George Hodge 2 Philip Asher
David Henry Crawcour b1875 moved to SA Cape Town in 1902 and died 19 april 1923 Durban. He married Adeline Campbell Ross daughter of Thomas Ross and Christine Lindsay. Their sons were Alfred Ross 1911-1997 and David Lindsay 1907-1979.
Other relatives of the Crawcour's also moved to SA including my great grandfather Ernest Henry Hart.
I have deliberately not listed the living members of the SA line but if any of my distant SA cousins wish further details on their early Crawcour roots they are welcome to contact me.
