George Deptford signed on for a 10 year engagement in 1859.In the 1861 Census he was on board HMS Edgar in Briitsh waters.I then lose all track until May 1869 when he arrives in Sydney as a crew member on board the Scanfell,a merchantman ex Liverpool.Family rumour holds that he ' ran'.As only his enlistment documents are to hand,how can I find out when,where and how he left the RN and where he was from 1861 to 1869 ?
