Hello Lister

I am researching Patrick Devine my GGrandfather who died in Manchester in
1896 following an Industrial Accident [He suffocated in a sewer whilst
attempting to rescue another man] He was married to Bridget Walsh in St
Patrick's Church Manchester in 1885
On his marriage certificate he states his father as Patrick Devine Spirit
Distiller

I have found Patrick [junior] on the 1881 census in Manchester and he says
he was born in Ireland
I have estimated his d.o.b from the census and his death Cert.

I have found a Patrick Devine [on the IGI] born 1855 in Carrick Donegal but
I have no idea whether this is my man
Any suggestions would be appreciated

It might help if you were to post the 1881 Census details.Do you know when he came to the country i.e before of after 1871 or even 1861?

Further to what Jenjen has given you, the following household looks like it must be your great grandfather's in the 1901 census [which you can access for yourself at www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ (http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/)]. The family members fit with what you know to be fact, namely that Patrick died in 1896.

At 2 Back St. Georges Road, Manchester, in a 2-room dwelling...

I apologise for not being explicit in my original message, I am am not yet sure how this forum works
Yes I do have them on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census as you have shown
I have no idea when he came to England. My first sighting is his marriage to Bridget Walsh.
I wondered as he was shown as 29 years old when he married, whether he had been in the army or something like that. Would 29 be old for a Roman Catholic to marry or was it not unusual
