They are all under the batch number C070641 and there are various source/call nos which are 0416743, 0416749 and 0416755. Which refer to the dates 1756-1811.

How do I find the source of where these records were taken from?

I've clicked on each of the 0416.... numbers but can't find details of baptisms relating to Horsham from 1756-1811.

I know I did this once before with another ancestor and managed to get a downloadable scan of the actual parish record itself although I think this was done via another site the name of which I can't remember. But I got the name of the church/chapel etc... from the IGI which allowed me to do so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

It looks to me as if it's a transcript of Challen's transcript of PRs and BTs. In other words transcripts of transcripts of transcripts!

Since you're in West Sussex, presumably you'll use West Sussex Record Office to view the originals.

Thanks Peter, That is the only thing I could find so I clicked on it and it went on and on and on.........now I know why if they were transcripts of transcripts etc..... lol

I remember how I got the last lot, they were Horsham Independant Chapel Baptist records and I got the images from bmdregisters.co.uk
as part of the RG 4 series!

No such luck this time eh?

Can I presume then that these children were not baptised in the Independant Chapel in Horsham?

The ones I got via RG 4 were the first three children of one of the lot I am looking for this time, so a change of religion is entirely possible isn't it?

I shall certainly try and locate them at the West Sussex Records Office

Cheers

Sindylin - in my experience, and I have ancestors who baptised their kids all over the place, I wouldn't necessarily assume a 'change of religion'. Some families were just not big god-botherers at all, and would baptise their children at the nearest convenient church. I do think that we forget this in our searches. We tend to think that our forebears were all very correct following one religion or another, but they were just like us really. Those who couldn't really be bothered with it all, just christened their kids anywhere - so at least they were christened. I have proved this with a few lines of mine. However, with a name as common as Shaw, you have to be careful. You may want to consider, however, that Shaw is a Scottish surname and non-conformity in England (i.e. Presbyterian or Independent) was big among those of Scottish heritage.

One of them is an actual series of films of the PARISH REGISTERS themselves... below is the detailed bumf for that source (it's actually the first one 0918272) -- and, you guessed it! they are films of original records in the West Sussex County Record Office, so, lucky you, they are close by!
