Childrens home in Buckinghamshire

Can anyone help.
My mother was abandoned in a children's home in Buckinghamshire in the 1940's by her mother. She knows that an aunt came to get her when she was about 5 ( she was born in 1938). She does not know the name or whereabouts in Buckinghamshire, but it was a large house with bay windows and a drive. Can anyone advise where i could possibly get any info and if i would be able to confirm with records that we have the correct place?

I would try for a Council run home first. The best people to ask would be the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies

You may have to invoke the Freedom of Information Act to get your hands on records from that sort of period.
