My gt. grandfather, Charles Arthur Parker (b. 02/10/1855 in Peopleton, Worcestershire) was a Sergeant in the 1st Yorkshire regiment in 1889 and in abt. 1896 he was in Nasirabset, India when my eldest gt. aunt was born. The 1871 census records him in a civilian occupation in Worcestershire. By 1904 he was recorded as a pensioner of the 2nd Yorkshire Light Infantry.

Can anybody help with any more information please?

The National Archvies at Kew will hold the records you seek. Have a look at their research guides prefixed British Army (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/researchguidesindex.asp?WT.lp=gs-researchguides#b) (The records in WO97 are being digitally scanned with a view to making them available on a pay-per-view site by 2011).

You may find reference to the regiment and actions in which it took part in the London Gazette.
