My great-uncle served in the 2nd World War in France. Family bible records show him returning from France in June 1940 to the Home Defence before being demobbed in August 1945, having been called up in September 1939. The records also indicate him sailing for India in February 1927 and returning in April 1933 though I am not certain if this is in connection with any mililtary service.

I have searched the National Archives catalogue but cannot find anything obvious to suggest that his discharge papers are available to view at TNA or to purchase copies of.

Can anybody suggest where I might locate such documents please, if at all?

Recent army service records (post-1920) are not held at TNA - Have a read of this part of the Veterans' Agency web-site (http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html)
