Hi Debbi - if I may take you up on your kind offer please?

on the 1851 census JOHN HEREFORD is shown as being born in Runn Mansley - which I believe is Romansleigh. Probably around 1816/7

I would be interested to know his parents names and date of baptism - and if he had a sister BETSEY (Elisabeth?) born c 1814

HEREFORD has many different spellings - HERREFORE, HERIFORD/E and even HERPIFORD! so I hope this is not too much to ask

regards

Karen

Dear Karen,

next time I go to the RO in Barnstaple I will look before 1813 for your Betsey(Elizabeth) on the micro fiche.

Fantastic - I had an email recently from someone who thought we might be related as I had posted a query on the DFHS website on 'Runn Mansley' as I could not work out where it was! After he had pointed out that Romanleigh was most likely, he noticed he had BETSEY in his tree, whereas I had JOHN and as they were both born there within a few years of each other, there might be a connection.

Neither of us had been able to get back any further as records not on the IGI and popping down to Devon is a luxury I'm afraid.

If you have time to look for her we would both be grateful. If, however, you have not the time (I know how quickly it goes in the record office), I understand!!

Dear Karen,

I am sorry but she is not there. If you are sure she belongs to this family maybe she was baptised in a nearby village as they then moved to Romansleigh.
Just a thought.

Best wishes
