can anyone help me find john james cummings, son of thomas cummings. John was born in harwich between 1845 and 1852 . I'm hoping he appears on the 1851 census.

This is quite likely his birth - from FreeBMD

Births Dec 1846
Cummins John James Tendring 12 251

When I get time later today I will see if I can locate his family in Harwich 1841 and 1861 - I do not have 1851.

I have the Harwich film on order from the LDS, but it may be some weeks before it arrives at the family History Centre. I will be looking at that timeframe so will probably spot John.

many thanks! I have been stuck on this particular search for some time. The spelling cummins instead of cummings does seem likely. I so appreciate your help here!! He names Thomas Cummings as father on his marriage cert in 1871 and I think it is Thomas, married to Sarah in 1836. They are in the 1861 census Tendring, St Osyth with daughter Sarah Ann 15 b Harwich. I so hope I can make a link between this family ref and John James. The 1851 census will hopefully provide this link. Again, I thank you so much for helping me in this and appreciate anything you can offer

Essex 1841 Census
Part HO107/344 Folio 8, page 9
(Archive CD Books - CD 13)
Enumeration District 4
St Nicholas, Harwich
St Austins Lane
Thomas CUMMINS, 31, Coast Guard, N
Sarah, 30, N
Thomas, 3, Y
Edward, 2, Y
N = not born in county
Y = born in county

(double checked it says Edward on this one) And with the CUMMINGS one from 1851 showing both Sarah and Thomas born Devon - I would say this is certainly the same family as these two are also born out of the county. I didn't find them in Harwich in 1861 of course!

Thank you so much - this link has confirmed the relationship. I have thomas located in LDS Plymouth birth 1910 and also sarah (nee elsdon) so will now move to some LDS research on this. Once again, many thanks

While Christine's looking up the real thing in 1841 .....

"He names Thomas Cummings as father on his marriage cert in 1871 and I think it is Thomas, married to Sarah in 1836."

I would reckon you're right.
This is from an index, so no details of relationships etc., but in Harwich 1851 on HO107/1780, folios 64/65, there are these Cummings entries:
Thomas, 42 b Plymouth, Devon
Sarah, 40 b Newton ?, Devon
remainder all born Harwich, Essex:
Thomas H, 12
Edwin, 11
Frederick R, 8
Sarah Ann A, 5
John James, 4 (so that fits the late 1846 birth that Christine found)
Richard, 2
