I was wondering if anyone has a connection to the following family from Thatcham Berkshire:
Benjamin Franklin born 1792 in Thatcham
married
Elizabeth Freeman born abt 1796 in Greenham, Berkshire
They went on to have 10 children - but I am confused between an Eliza and Elizabeth - looking for confirmation on years of birth. Elizabeth does not show up on the 1841 census with the family.
Kids name and year of birth are as follows:
Sarah 1821
Eliza 1823
Elizabeth abt 1824 ??
Mary 1825
William 1827
Susan 1829
Benjamin 1831
John 1833
Hannah 1835
Emma 1836
Would love to hear if any of this sounds familiar ?
Cheers
Jayne

Hi Jayne,
I am sorry but I am still adamant that Eliza and Elizabeth are two different people. Eliza abt 1820 Greenham being the one who married Luke Lawrence in 1848 and emigrated to Australia, and Elizabeth bap 1823 being the one who married James Sumner of Caversham in 1843 and is with him in 1851 and 1881
76 Chatham St Reading
James Sumner 31 Journeyman Plumber Caversham
Elizabeth 27 Greenham
William F 6 schol Reading
Eliza 4 Scholar Reading
James f 2 Reading
Marsh Newbury
Luke Lawrence 33 Journeyman Carpenter Thatcham
Eliza 29 Dressmaker Greenham
Elizabeth 1 Newbury
Dorcas Wyndham serv 14 Enborne
Is there any way at a distancae to look up parish registers (presumably Thatcham) to find the marriages for their father/s names? Anyone who can help?
Yours
Victoria

Hello,
Yes, I know, but my budget at the moment will not stretch that far, and the online familysearch records do not show either marriage. Neither are they on the VRl but they may be on film at LDS.
Thanks for your interest anyway.
Yes, Jayne, the certs are the only way. Can you keep me informed, please.
Sandy, it was Elizabeth who was born and bap 1823 from familysearch.

Hi Jayne - I don't know if you have any other info on Franklin's but I am trying to find details of my ggrandfather james thomas Franklin who was born in 1854 and christened at Old Church St Pancras London - we think his parents were James Franklin and Catherine Wroot Elston (awaiting arrival of marriage certificate from UK). I have no record of his leaving the UK and arriving in Australia where he married my ggrandmother in Sydney NSW in 1877.
If you have any other Franklin connection that might coincide I would appreciate any info.

Hi,
I am the G,G, Great granddaughter of Elizabeth Freeman and Benjamin Franklin. I have some info on the family, not sure what you are looking for. I have traced the Freeman family back to 1660, The Franklin Family back to 1690, The Lawrence Family back to 1485.
Elizabeth Freeman was known to the Family as Betsy.
Eliza and Elizabeth are two seperate people. Eliza was known as Liza.
I am a descendant of Eliza's. Eliza married her cousin Luke Lawrence in 1848 and had 4 children, Anne born circa 1848 and died 1848, Elizabeth Susannah born 12 Dec 1849 died 19 Oct 1939 (my great Grandmother) Thomas born 1851 and James Henry born 1856. Eliza & Luke Lawrence along with Eliza's brother William Franklin and his wife Sophia Moulding emmigrated to Australia on the "Harriet" and arrive Sydney 11 June 1853. Luke and William went searching for gold but were unsuccessful.
William and Sophia settled in Soapy Flats just outside Berrima NSW. They had 5 children. Luke and Eliza went there seperate ways, Eliza settled in Sydney while Luke went exploring.
Elizabeth (Betsy) and her daughters Anne and Emma came to Australia about 1855.
Anne did not marry. Emma married Henry Jeffery and lived in Sydney. (Although I have not confirmed this info.) This info was given to me by my fathers cousin who lived with her grandmother, Elizabeth Susannah (Eliza and Luke's daughter). I believe John Franklin born 1833 also came to Australia.
I have a photo of Elizabeth (Betsty) Franklin nee Freeman, Eliza Lawrence nee Franklinf and Elizabeth Susannah Lutton nee Lawrence if you are interested.
Who in the Franklin family were you looking at in particular?
Hope this is of help to you.

Hi Lindsay,
Thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate it.
William and Sophia had a daughter Sarah Ann Franklin born c1852, who arrived with them in Australia. Sarah married Francis Wotton in 1880 and they had a daughter Annie Elizabeth Wotton. Annie was the mother of my husband's grandmother. I would love to share information as I have 8 children for William and Sophia. The reason for my original post was due to confusion between Eliza and Elizabeth. My email address is jayne DOT davey AT yahoo DOT com DOT au

Hello Lindsay,
I have a stake in this discussion too, so would be grateful for any help you are able to offer. I am interested in Benjamin Franklin's parents, in particular, his mother, Hannah Sellwood, and some of Benjamin's siblings who are linked with my family. There seems to have been a lot of intermarrying within the Franklin family that I am trying to get to the bottom of.
Also, at least 2 of the Franklin descendants of Anthony and Hannah in the later 19th century married into my Sellwood family.
Do please email me if you have the time vicwinann AT googlemail.com
Yours
Victoria
