I have my late father`s R.A.F. WW2 Service Record obtained from RAF Disclosures in Sleaford and very interesting it is to.Could anyone help with a couple of abbreviations?Under `Unit` it states 18 BC,5 SS,HQ 80 Wing and R.V.S.U.

Was your father in the Signals? Looks like 80 Wing was a signals wing.
There is a book about "RAF Beam Benders" The History of 80 (Signals) Wing RAF 1940-45 by Laurie Brettingham.

I suspect 5 SS was 5 Signals Squadron, and RVSU something Signals Unit.

RVSU stood for Radio Vehicle Storage Unit.
Have a Google for RAF RVSU, there is a good insight of the RVSU at http://landinginnormandy.com/omw/Hinton.pdf

Many thanks for the web-site.Hinton-in -the -Hedges was where my father was posted during the war.He too was in the RAF reserve until 1959.The article makes fascinating reading because he rarely talked about the war.

Hi, interested in you father's record as I'm working on one that also has the same series of units etc.

Have you identified 18BC?? I think it's BasicCourse but nt certain. I know that 5SS = 5 Signals School at Malvern. Thanks; johnjH
