Hi everyone,i am looking for the birth of Lucien R Grandvoinet ,only info i have is his marriage to Evelyn Widdowson 4th qrt 1938 Basford. I have looked in the usual places but nothing,unless i am looking in the wrong places AGAIN.I will get the hang of this one day.Thanks in advance

I think I would get the marriage certificate.

It should give his age and name and occupation of father all of which may help.

There is a marriage on Ancestry in France:

Name: Lucien Grandvoinnet
Marriage Bann Date: 24 Jul 1892
Father: Jean Grandvoinnet
Mother: Jeanne Baptiste Virginie Bobellier
Spouse: Augustine Peynaud

I wonder if your man came from France and that is why you cannot find a birth?

Thanks for that Doug,i knew i would have to visit the Nottingham Archives to find their certificate and not for the first time. Also to use their free access to the A------ site for the rest.Wish me luck,and thanks again.Hazel

I found this on A** because FreeBMD haven't got up to 1938 yet.

You can order online using this link (http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/) - certificates cost £7. Just make sure that when you select the type of certificate that you also scroll down and tick the box that says "GRO index known". It will then ask you for the reference as given above.
