My G G Grandmother died in 1901, at the age of 37. Family rumour has it that she died in childbirth although I have never been able to find record of a child of her surname (she was Caroline Keen) born at that time in the Camberwell area where she died.

Given that she died young, even if it was not in childbirth, am I right in thinking that there would have been an inquest/coroners report? If so, where would I start in looking for it please?

I will meantime try to obtain her death cert. I have to get her birth cert too as I am not yet aware of who her parents were - I have an idea, going by the census records, but am unsure. More hassle and expense!

Thanks Finbar!

So if it was death in childbirth, and there was no reason to have suspected complications, I guess an inquest may have occurred.

It sounds horrid, but I can't wait to get that death cert now!

Thanks Sue... but thats odd. Her census returns say she was born in Bermondsey though a search of A**** (admittedly only briefly) shows no corresponding birth. Hmmmm....
