hello there
I go to a Family history group and Thursday borrowed a Cd of Brecon 1861 census. On there I found my great-great=grandfather (I hope) a coal miner aged 11.He is living with his widowed grandmother and her son (who may be his father)
I would like to find his mother and father and date of birth but his wedding cert. shows no father.
Would anyone be able to look in the previous census for me or somewhere else.
Thanks very much,best wishes
Wendy

Unfortunately there are 5 possibles on the 1851 Census for Breconshire (born 1848-1851). We really need for information to help narrow it down. What did the 1861 give as his actual place of birth?

The census reference for 1861 is (I think)

RG9; Piece: 4218; Folio: 44; Page: 33

There is a birth registration on FreeBMD for a Charles DAVIES Sept quarter 1849 - Crickhowell 26 315. Crickhowell was the registration district for Llangattock.

Hope this helps :)

I found him on the 1861 Census and comparing the info. think this might be the right one.
HO107/2490/240 Page 18
Beaufort, Llangattock, Breconshire
William Davies abt 1794 Pembrokeshire, Wales Head
Ann Davies abt 1787 Pembrokeshire, Wales Wife
Thomas Davies abt 1820 Breconshire, Wales Son (unmarried)
Charles Davies abt 1850 Breconshire, Wales Son

he's actually transcribed as being William & Ann's son which is stretching things a bit too far.
It looks as though you will have to send for a birth certificate to solve the mystery.

I've just checked the 1841 Census to see if there were other kids living at home and what I found is:

Llangattock, Breconshire
William Davies abt 1801
Ann Davies abt 1791
Thomas Davies abt 1821 Breconshire, Wales

Sorry Nicolina,
Just realised you are referring to the 1851 census above, it does indeed say son. |oopsredfa

Thanks to all of you for looking. In his wedding cert. and on his grave it says he was from Beaufort.
I agree he can't be Ann's son. Poor woman if he is !!
Perhaps I will send for his birth certificate because I feel we have the right one

Don't know if you remember helping me with Charles Davies but thought you'd like to know I've had his birth cert. and it looks like his mother may have been a sister to Thomas. No father is given and he was born 24/07/1849 in Beaufort Square which is where the family was living
