I'm searching for marriage of Thomas Todd (b. abt 1808 Scotland), agricultural labourer, and Frances (maiden name unknown) (b. abt 1820 Castle Sowbery Cumberland), likely in Dalston/Carlisle abt 1837 or earlier. Their first child Ann was born abt 1838 in Dalston.

Nothing found on Free BMD, which only starts September 1837. :(

If you order the birth certificate of Ann Todd, that would at least give you the maiden name of Frances. This looks like it:
Mar 1838, Carlisle, vol 25, page 45. (Dalston is in the Carlisle reg. district.)

Good thought Mona. I'll see whether the family tree treasurer will support ordering. :)

Hi Isambard.

The IGI has no Cumberland marriages for a Thomas Todd and a Frances ....? in your time frame.
If you are certain she was born at Castle Sowerby, only two Frances's are shown on the index as being baptised at Castle Sowerby between 1810 and 1830. They are:-

Frances Brown, bap. 25th September 1819 at Castle Sowerby.
Parents John Brown and Frances Reed.

Frances Dodd, bap. 25th September 1825 (same date as above) at Castle Sowerby.
Parents Thomas Dodd and Mary.
Batch No. C059291 refers.

Finbar,

Frances' must have been a moveable birth, according to census records :) ;
1841- b. Cumberland
1851- b. Dalston
1861- b. Castle Sowerby
1871- b. Castle on Ely

I must have a closer look at Cumberland's geography - Sowerby vs Ely. :)
