trying to find out any details for me about the Challis family.
all the details ive got are Denis James Challis born 1926 Cambridge.
he married Mary W Mcdonald in 1946.
they had 2 sons James and Denis, James being my first husband.
would like any details about Denis James Challis parents and Marys parents.

Hi anndot,

If you get the marriage certificate that will give you the names and occupations of the fathers.

(However I am unable to find a marriage in the images on Ancestry - how sure are you of the year? Searched 1945 - 1947)

Since you know the year of birth for Denis if you get that certificate it will give you the names of his parents.

Have you tried FreeBMD (http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/)?

It has the birth entry for Denis and records his mother as Morgan.

Dennis' mother's maiden name is Morgan.If you send for Dennis' birth certificate, it will give both parents names and fathers occupation. If you send for his marriage certificate, it will give you Mary's father's name and occupation too. You will probably have to search for this on a pay site, as it is not yet on the free BMD. You could then look them up on the 1901/11 census'. That will probably give their parents and siblings.

i did get in touch with my ex husband but his father can no longer remember any details about his parents.
