View Full Version : Try this trick when searching 1911 for Cumberland births

While trolling through the 1911 census, I notice that a number of the entries [mostly those born in Cumberland I think] are listed as Mr. or Mrs.

Example: Harrison Ballentyre b. 1886 Lvg. Carlisle is shown as Mr. Harrison Ballentyre.

If you know the exact name of someone, this probably isn't a problem since he seems to be indexed under both Harrison & Mr. as a first name.
Also, if you know the exact last name, you will probably find them.

However, if you are trying to find everyone named Gertrude born [insert year] in [insert place] to see if surname was misspelled or who she married, be aware that some of the entries only have the first name of Mr. or Mrs. so if you can't find someone, try searching for that name - there are 205 entries for Mr. & 395 for Mrs. born in Cumberland & some of them don't have another first name.
