ok bear with me on this one please.

I have the records of my gt aunt who was placed in Leeds moral and industrial school in 1907. She was born and raised in Hull with several brothers and sisters.
In the records it states no next of kin until she moved to Meanwood Park Colony after being found in Leeds, in 1917
The records show she was released from Leeds Moral school and sent back to Hull Workhouse where she absconded after 6 weeks, only to be picked up in Lion Street Leeds. She was then sent to Meanwood.

My gran (her sister) is then shown as next of kin on her records, fighting to get her released into her care, which is turned down each time.

On the 1911 census her mum and dad are still living in Hull with 2 daughters (my gran and another sister) but have only listed as having 2 children living or dead. Previous records and certificates have shown they had 5. I have even met children of the missing family, so I know they didnt die.

One of the boys was sent to an orphanage then served as an apprentice to a tailor in Leeds but always told his family he never lived with his parents.

My question is, where would i go to try and find out why the children were split up,sent to different places and who would have made the choice?

sorry if its all alittle confusing but this family are sending me round the twist!!!! lol

Are all the siblings the children of both parents? Could some of them be half-siblings? Maybe the ones who were not brought up with the family were step-children who got pushed out on a remarriage. Were either of the parents involved with the law?

all the children were registered as the same parents. As far as I know neither parent were involved with the law.
Elsie, who was placed in the institution was deaf, I remeber meeting her as a small child.

The children who were left were the youngest born the year her sister was sent away and the middle girl. Both boys and another girl went.

Both the sites you gave are great for information, another which has just turned up is
