How do I get a picture from my pictures file to this page? I havetried right clicking on the picture and then clicking on both copy & cut but when I get to "post a new thread" I cannot paste it. I am at a loss.

The best way is to use something like photobucket. There are good instructions to be found on this thread -

I hope this is it.

If you can get a picture out of this can you give me a date on it. My Granfather is the one without a beret. He was 63 when he died in 1951 so I'm guessing that it is 1939-45. Does anyone recognise the cap badges.

Hiya, you seem to have removed the photobucket image? I have fixed (I hope!) the code - but the image appears to be missing now. If you upload it again, I am happy to fix the code for you. The problem is that the "bb code" used on the forum isn't quite the same as the "html code" used on websites etc.

Mark

Edit: Worry not! I have sorted it out and the image is now displaying :)

The badge doesn't look like an official British regimental badge to me. Wonder if it is some localised thing?

Date wise, I would guess late WW2 or not long afterwards - 1942/3 to late 1940s.

Thanks Mark I don't know what you did but it's great.

I don't know how much information we can glean from this picture but anything will be more than I know now.

Joe.

Joe,
Any chance of a zoom in on the arm of the chap with the stripes standing at the back in the middle? The insignia there may give us a clue as to the regiment at least :)

I am off to bed now, but if you get stuck - drop me a PM and I can fix things once I get up again ;)

The photobucket stuff isn't too complex, but it isn't always easy to fix if there is any tiny error unless you are familiar with the code used by the forum. Not a problem though - it gives me something to do ;) :D

Cheers,
Mark :)

My Grandfather is a man of mystery. Rumour has it that he was born in South Africa and ran away to sea at 14. his 1908 Marriage certificate has him as a ships cook, so I'm guessing that this is circa 1939 in the UK as i recall being told he did fire watch during the later part of WWII. I thought the cap badges may be The Tank Corp. I tried to enlarge the area above the sgts stripes but it just goes into digital blocks.

Yes it does pixillate, however if you don't go too close/large it does appear to be a silhouette of a WW1 tank with the bow to the right.
The outline appears to be the same as the one on the 1939 cap badge although the cap badge tank faces left, it has the slight uneveness on the top.
