My lineal ancestor and namesake John WILKS was born in North Mimms and for some reason moved to Ireland where he married and had two daughters. He returned to England with his wife Ann (nee HOARE) and they had two more offspring in Camberwell in the mid nineteenth century. John was born about 1820 and I'd like to know anything about him or his family which might explain his Irish move. Also, was the family rooted in Hertfordshire for long before his birth? Any clues most gratefully received.

Have you tried visiting the site, Brookmans?

Brookmans Park is in North Mymms, and they have a section where you can post genealogy questions. (The "ask the archivist" thread is closed at the moment, as the archivist stood down this month, but someone else may be able to help.)

Many thanks for the tip. I have visited the site and hope they find a volunteer soon to take on the role of custodian. I'll e-mail them when the site re-opens for postings.
