Hi
I have found a realative that died on HMS Terrible,the information is from the war graves commision.
Does anyone understand the numbers and letters,and is there anyway i can get records and find out how he died.

Died in First World War In Memory of Leading Stoker EDWARD PERCY EVANS 289027, (R.F.R./P.O./B./4158). H.M.S. `Terrible.`, Royal Navy who died age 42 on 04 May 1918 Husband of Edith Alice Evans, of The Terrace, Stoke Row. Remembered with honour STOKE ROW (ST. JOHN) CHURCHYARD

R.F.R - Royal Fleet Reserve - a force comprising of pensioners who had completed 20 years service but were still of military age. The RFR was amalgamated with the R.N.R in 1958

P.O - Petty Officer

Cause of death will be on his death certificate. Search the index to Naval War Deaths 1914-1921 and using the reference apply for a copy of his certificate

HMS Terrible was a large but obselete cruiser 14,200 tons, 22kts, crew 894, 2x9.2 inch guns, 12x6 inch guns - I think she was used as a troopship from about 1915 and eventually scrapped 1932.

Thankyou Geoffers for the information, so that means he was in the service for at least 20 years previous.
Great i will search the Index for Naval war Deaths.
