The Gutteridges of Chapman Street:
This seems to be the same family followed through the censuses
1861: Chapman Street, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Joseph Gutteridge, Head, 40, Cattle Dealer, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Ann Gutteridge, Wife, 31, Wilbarston, Leicestershire
Mary Ann Gutteridge, dau, 10, Scholar, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Sarah Gutteridge, dau, 2, Scholar, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Harry Gutteridge, son, 1 month, Scholar, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Sarah Boye, Aunt, 46, Domestic Nurse, Loughborough, Leicestershire
1871: 13 Chapman Street, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Joseph Gutteridge, Head, 50, Commission Agent, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Ann Gutteridge, Wife, 41, Wilbarston, Leicestershire
Mary A Gutteridge, dau, 20, School Teacher, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Sarah Gutteridge, dau, 12, Scholar, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Harry Gutteridge, son, 10, Scholar, Loughborough, Leicestershire
1881: 13 Chapman Street, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Sarah Gutteridge, daug, 22, Machinist Cotton Factory, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Harry Gutteridge, son, 20, FWK Hosiery, Loughborough, Leicestershire
Tamar Gutteridge, mother, 87, Loughborough, Leicestershire
1881: 11 Knifesmithgate, Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Joseph GUTRIDGE, Boarder, Widower, 59, Loughboro, Leicester, Horse Dealer
This all sets several puzzles for which I would welcome assistance.
1. If the Derbyshire 1881 extract is correct this explains the "disappearance" from Chapman Street of Joseph Gutteridge. He is now a widower and has moved away. But what happened to his wife. Can anyone trace a death?
2. Who exactly is Tamar Gutteridge? She is recorded as "mother" but is she in reality grandmother, that is Joseph's mother? Can anyone find evidence to support this?
3. And who is the mysterious Sarah Boye recorded as Aunt (presumably of Joseph) in the 1862 Census?
A lot of questions but I would appreciate help in clarifying family relationships here.
Many thanks
David Gutteridge
