Mike,

A death certificate from before the 1960s is not going to give you a place of birth. That is something that was brought in comparatively recently.
The information on a death certificate from the 19th century has where and when the person died, the name, gender, age, cause of death, name of the person giving the information, date the death was registered and the signature of the registrar.
The best way to find the death certificate is to look at the GRO (General Register Office) index. This can be searched in The reference Library in Newport or at the Family Research Centre at Middleton House in London or in the LDS Family History Centres or online at 1837online.com (this site does charge to look at the pages).or you could contact the local Register Office in tredegar - go to the Monmouthshire page at www.genuki.org.uk (http://www.genuki.org.uk) for the address
