My Parrish lot were in the workhouse in the 1911 census. The mother and child were in Pontefract Union Workhouse and the rest of the siblings including my 4 year old grandfather were placed in Carleton Cottage Homes. From Googling, all I can tell about these homes is that they were part of the Pontefract Union, with one in Pontefract and four in nearby Carleton. Where could I find more information on these homes?

Would it be worth trying
pontefractfhs.org.uk
they reckon they have 360 booklets on the area, maybe one on the workhouses.

Have you also tried
workhouses.org.uk

type Pontefract into the search box and you will see maps and a picture

"The Pontefract Union erected children's cottage homes — five at Carleton, and one in Pontefract. In total, they could accommodate 120 children"

I just got my membership to Pontefract FHS in the post today :). I had joined well before Christmas and had completely forgotten about it. Timely I think. Off to look at their publications shortly!

Any surviving records will be with West Yorkshire Archives Service, filed under Pontefract Union.

My sources suggest that no records of any value have survived but you should check with the Archives.
