Hi everyone,
I'm new here and trying to find some information about my English & French ancestors. I'm an Australian living in Vienna, Austria.
Maybe someone here can point me in the right direction to answer my question? I'm looking for information on my great x 3 grandfather who was bor n in France and served in the French Navy aboard the sip of the line "Valmy". I think he may have served while "Valmy" was in the Crimea. Does anyone know who to contact in France to find this out? Where does one look for ex-sailor's record?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Welcome to the B-G Forums.

I think you may need to start your search at the French National Archives (it should turn up using a search engine).

My interest is RN Crimea medals. In addition to this forum I am also a member of the British Medal Forum, and the question of researching Crimea and Baltic Medals to frenchmen came up as a topic. Below is a link to the post. However, you may have to be registered to view it.
