Hi,

Many thanks for your thread I've enjoyed searching it.

I have found Samuel Haycock listed and was wondering can any more information be found about this chap. I'm related to the Haycocks and nearly all with that surname come from Rugeley, Staffordshire area.

I was just wondering could he be some relation? (doubtful be hey who knows).

Regards
Adrian

I haven't looked at the link; but TNA has individually indexed soldiers' dodcuments from this period on their catalogue.

This entry may refer to the above Samuel HAYCOCK (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATID=-4030293&CATLN=7&Highlight=%2CSAMUEL%2CHAYCOCK&accessmethod=0)
If this catalogue entry is of any interest - click on the button to the right of the screen 'request this' and either order it digitally, or request an estimate for a copy.

Searching for the name H*YCOCK on the catalogue brings up these hits:

WO97 (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/searchresults.asp?SearchInit=0&txtsearchterm=h*ycock&txtfirstdate=&txtlastdate=&txtrestriction=WO97&hdnsorttype=Reference&image1.x=34&image1.y=6)
WO121 (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/searchresults.asp?SearchInit=0&txtsearchterm=h*ycock&txtfirstdate=&txtlastdate=&txtrestriction=WO121&hdnsorttype=Reference&image1.x=39&image1.y=15)
ADM157 (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/searchresults.asp?SearchInit=0&txtsearchterm=h*ycock&txtfirstdate=&txtlastdate=&txtrestriction=ADM157&hdnsorttype=Reference&image1.x=23&image1.y=21)

You might find other RM and RN entries on documentsonline

[quote=apowell;249673]Hi,

I was just wondering could he be some relation? (doubtful be hey who knows).

Depends if he was in the services? if army or navy I would think so - not sure if he was in Canadian forces - but there are plenty of sites to help http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ or for Canada http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/ENGLISH/exhibits/1812/index.html
if off a privateer let me know and I may have more...glad it was some help.
